Time For Rooted Cincinnatians To Say No!

An Expert Is Not Someone From Out Of Town

There is an old joke, poking fun at the pseudo-intellectual type with a king-sized inferiority complex, who feels a compulsive need to clothe strangers with an aura of wisdom not accorded to his fellow townspeople or neighbors, that "an expert is someone from out-of-town." But apparently no one ever explained the joke to the poseurs at the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce.

Well gentlemen, we do not need to bring in any more false experts from outside this community--for any purpose. There are more than enough competent, Cincinnati born and educated citizens, to meet any challenge and perform any job. This is especially true in local law enforcement. It was, after all, not so very long ago that the Cincinnati Police Division was the model for Police all over America--as well as the Agency which helped instruct the FBI on how to keep their uniform crime statistics.

In endorsing the insulting Issue 5 on this fall's ballot, the Chamber of Commerce is totally out of step with the Cincinnati mainstream. Perhaps the Chamber has been hiring non-Cincinnatians again, and doesn't even understand the strength of this community. But regardless of the reason, the proposal to facilitate hiring non-Cincinnatians for sensitive positions, is totally unacceptable to those of us to whom this City is a way of life, a personal heritage.

We do not need to be made over in the image of any other community, least of all one that accepts the sort of value system that puts the Policeman, trying to maintain order, at a disadvantage in relation to those who reject both the public peace and decency and the property rights of their neighbors.
